At last night's City Council meeting, Arcadio Macmillan was recognized as our Employee of the Quarter. Arcadio has been a member of our Parks Team since 2020 and was recently promoted to a supervisor position. He was nominated for his dedication to our downtown area, which he oversees the park maintenance of, and his leadership when asked to step up when a coworker went out on medical leave. Arcadio is originally from Donalsonville, Ga and is married to Nadia and father to 3 children. Please join us in congratulating Arcadio for his commitment to our community and loyalty to the quality of our parks system!

Two of our city staff recently had the fantastic opportunity to meet with economic development teams from across the state and tour some amazing projects in Thomaston yesterday. These networking activities are invaluable, allowing us to share ideas and forge connections that will help us bring fresh insights back to Bainbridge. Together, we’re working to foster growth and innovation in our community!

Water service will be interrupted today in the area of Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Russ, Progress and Walnut Streets. Crews will be replacing the water valve that serves the area. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we will update this post when water is restored.

Spotlight on Service: Our Team in Action, Making a Difference in the Community City of Bainbridge employees volunteered Friday night at the Bearcat football game to staff the concession stand that benefits the BHS Marching Band. The band has been a great partner to us for many years and this was just a small way to give back to a program who gives so much to us.

At yesterday's monthly Chamber Connect luncheon presented by the Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by First Port City Bank, Mayor Edward Reynolds had the pleasure of introducing new City Manager Roy Oliver at his first community event since being named City Manager just a few weeks ago. Mayor Reynolds gave a little bit of background information about Roy and then turned the microphone over to him to describe, in his own words, his vision, some recent successes and allowed him to introduce members of his team that were on hand.

Bainbridge Public Safety sent officers to Alma, Georgia yesterday to assist in hurricane recovery efforts there. Chief Investigator Mark Esquivel, Investigator Josh Glover, Investigator Gaston Corson and PSO 3/ K9 Officer Chris Moore spent the day assisting local residents with tree and limb removal, clearing roadways and providing much needed aid. Often, in times of natural disasters such as Hurricane Helene, our officers extend support to those in need beyond our area.

Our September Comprehensive Plan Meeting has been rescheduled to October 24, 2024. It will still be held at our Public Safety Training Facility at 6:00 PM.

We held a ribbon cutting this morning at our recently completed Wastewater Treatment Plant. This facility represents a major step forward in our commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and the future of our growing community. With cutting-edge technology, we are enhancing our ability to treat wastewater more efficiently, reduce our environmental impact, and protect the natural resources that make Bainbridge so special. It’s a testament to the hard work, planning, and collaboration between city leaders, engineers, and staff. A special thank you to Congressman Sanford Bishop. Through his efforts, a vital project recently received a $1 million contribution from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, further showcasing his dedication to securing federal support for local communities. Thanks to Congressman Bishop’s efforts: • $1 million contribution from U.S. Department of Public Housing and Urban Development • $1.5 million contribution from the US Department of Treasury for our 500,000 gallon elevated water tank. A special thank you to Bates Engineering and Carter & Sloope for your work in turning this project into reality.

City Manager Roy Oliver spoke to the Rotary Club today. His presentation included an update to the club since the completion of Chason Park, a project Roy was heavily involved in.

* As of 8:45 AM, the curfew in place has been lifted. Please continue to stay off of the roads unless you need to make a trip somewhere. * All city streets are passable. * Tree limbs are very soggy and some may continue to fall into the street. Please call (229) 726-8303 and we will dispatch a crew to clean up. * All non emergency City of Bainbridge offices will be closed today and will reopen Monday, September 30. * There are some small pockets inside of the city limits without power. You can always use Georgia Power's outage map to learn more about estimated restoration times. We are thankful for everyone's safety!
