Today, workers will be repairing Shotwell Street at the intersection with Monroe Street. Please be aware that traffic will be reduced to one lane, and flaggers will be on-site to help direct vehicles. Expect delays and plan to avoid the area if possible. The repair work is expected to continue throughout most of the day. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Many of our parks and facilities have been home to Eagle Scout projects through the years and we were excited to welcome another one. Braeden Martin from Troop 383 chose the new Animal Services Center for his project. With the help of volunteers and other troop members, he spent months collecting donations of food, toys and other necessities for the shelter and built benches to add to new visit areas! The donations will go a long way for the animals and benches will provide years of enjoyment to those visiting the shelter. Thanks Braeden!

Today, we were able officially welcome Publix and Hand Properties to our community! Mayor Edward Reynolds welcomed the large group, followed by an invocation by Pastor John Woodrum and words by IDA Chair Keith Lyle, Chamber President Karen Tobin and First National Bank CEO Brad Barber. We then heard from Fred Hand IV and Fred Hand III who spoke to the effort, commitment and teamwork that was culminated today as well as their South Georgia roots. After years of speculation, many phone calls and emails and more meetings that could be counted, we officially turned the dirt on the Publix shopping center which will be located on Tallahassee Highway!

From Decatur County Schools: This ceremonial ribbon cutting introduced the Decatur County Schools' innovative K-12 initiative. This initiative is launching in grades K-8 for the 2024-2025 school year and offers an incredible opportunity for our students to engage in a STEM PATHWAY program designed to build an engineering mindset and develop essential soft skills that employers value. The WOZ Ed STEM pathways offered through this initiative is the first of its kind in the entire state of Georgia, ensuring that Decatur County students receive rigorous and engaging instruction to build a promising future.
